Head of Department’s Foreword

Welcome to the Department of Energy and Environmental Engineering, MKU

Established in 2015, Energy and environmental Engineering is one of the dynamic departments at Mount Kenya University. We aim at developing leaders in Energy, environment and real estate industries, with knowledge and skills for twenty first century and beyond. The department has developed programmes that not only focus on research and education, but most importantly relevant to industry both local and internationally.

Today we take great pride in developing and mentoring skills and competencies, particularly for the oil, gas and energy sector for the East Africa Region. Under the umbrella of the School of Engineering Energy and the Built Environment, we have partnered with industry and international academic institutions so that we can bring the best of knowledge and practical applications to transform the way we educate our students, helping them address existing and future societal needs through innovative engineering solutions.

The department is home to the following programmes;


  1. Bachelor of Science Energy and Environmental Technology
  2. Bachelor of Science Petroleum Exploration and Production
  3. Bachelor of Science Real Estate Management

  1. Masters of Science in Energy and Power Engineering (Expected start Date Sept. 2017
